Spring has finally arrived! The weather is getting warmer and that's a good thing for EVs. But spring is the one season that every weather condition can happen on the same day. As we say goodbye to winter and welcome this beautiful season, there are a few things you need to know about spring driving. 

• Dangers of potholes

Snow and ice have caused more potholes on the road, and the spring heavy rainfall will fill the potholes quickly which can make them harder to spot so it's important to be extra vigilant. The heavy batteries on many EVs are housed towards the bottom of the car which can put them and your suspension in harm's way if you hit a pothole disguised as a puddle. Keep a safe distance from other drivers and watch to see if they hit them. This will help you know what's coming. 

• Charging in the rain

We have mentioned this in our previous articles. There's no worry about charging in the rain. Charge points are built with protective layers that can withstand all kinds of intrusions from foreign objects, including moisture.

• Check your tyres

Before you rush to switch out your winter tires, remember to check your tires. Good tire tread is essential for wet weather driving. The worn tread will reduce traction and can increase the chance of slipping, especially if the road surface is wet. And warmer temperatures can cause your tires to expand, which can affect your range, handling, and traction. Be sure to check your tire pressure regularly to ensure that it's at the recommended level for your vehicle.

• Monitor your car system

As the weather gets warmer, you may want to adjust your regenerative braking settings to maximize energy recapture. EVs use regenerative braking to capture energy and recharge the battery. Warmer temperatures can also affect your battery temperature. Check your EV's battery temperature regularly and avoid charging the vehicle in direct sunlight or in very hot conditions.
